Failure to conduct proper due diligence

Investment advisors (stock brokers) are required to perform an investigation on an investment product before recommending the product to clients. There have been a rash of cases recently where sufficient due diligence is not undertaken prior to a recommendation, resulting in investors purchasing Ponzi-schemes, or other inappropriate or unsuitable investments.
